Our British Values at Hempland Primary School - What we hold dear in our school and our children.
Here at Hempland Primary School we strongly encourage our pupils to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence. Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make individual decisions for example; children have the choice of participation of a diverse selection of extra-curricular activities, a variety of menu options for lunches, children are encouraged to make select choices, knowing that they are in a supportive and secure environment. Our Pupils are educated to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are guided responsibly on how to implement these; for example through E-Safety, PSHCE lessons and assemblies.
The Rule of Law
We promote our pupils to learn and abide to strong morals, and follow rules whether this be in the classroom, playground or at home. Our children are taught to distinguish right from wrong and to respect the civil and criminal law of England. Our pupils are taught to accept responsibility for their behaviour both with our rewards and discipline systems as indicated in our academy's behaviour policy. We regularly invite spokes people from the emergency services, such as Police and Fire Brigade into the school to give talks and presentations within our assemblies.
Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith
At Hempland Primary School we teach respect, tolerance and harmony between different cultural traditions, children have the opportunity to learn about different faiths and cultures in our religious studies topics. We ensure our pupils acquire an appreciation and develop further understanding and respect for their own and other cultures. We encourage pupils to show initiative, and to understand how they can make a positive contribution to their community, by respecting not only cultures, but one another, recognising and celebrating differences.
We strongly uphold a respect for democracy and support for participation in the democratic processes, here at Hempland Primary School we have our very own Student Council which allows our pupils voices to be heard. Our student council even play a part in our staff interviews. We echo the fundamentals of democracy among our pupils including respect for the basis on which the law is made and applied in England.
